Celebrity closes registration for its first river cruises after just six minutes

Celebrity River Cruises says demand for its inaugural sailings was so high that it closed its early registration just six minutes after it opened.

The cruise line had invited people to pay a £400 fully refundable deposit from 2pm yesterday to secure one of its 2027 cruises on the Danube or the Rhine.

However, a message on the Celebrity River Cruises website said it had closed early registration due to ‘unprecedented demand’.

A spokesperson later confirmed that the early access sailings had sold out in six minutes.

Those who managed to pay a deposit will be able to confirm their booking from 10 September, after which the remaining inventory will open to the general public.

Celebrity River Cruises claims it will ‘transform’ river cruising in Europe with the launch of its two ships, details of which were revealed yesterday. The line will operate 33 cruises during its inaugural season.

Earlier this month, Celebrity Cruises VP of International Giles Hawke said he was ‘pretty convinced’ its first-ever river programme would ‘sell out overnight’.
