The BBC show Race Across the World is returning this autumn, with a celebrity edition that will follow contestants battling it out across the ‘undiscovered’ Caribbean and Pacific coast of Central America.
The BBC said the series will take the race through ‘one of the most diverse and visually stunning routes yet’, beginning in Isla Mujeres, just off the easternmost point of Mexico.
From there, the four teams will race 5,900km to reach the finish line in the remote Península de La Guajira in Colombia, the gateway to South America.
Celebrities taking part were announced yesterday.
They are broadcaster and writer Anita Rani and her dad, Bal; Hollyoakes and Derry Girls actor Dylan Llewellyn and his mum, Jackie; presenter and DJ Tyler West and his partner, actor and singer Molly Rainford; and broadcaster Roman Kemp and his sister, singer-songwriter, Harleymoon.
Travel companies have said previous shows have boosted interest in the destinations featured.
For example, Wendy Wu Tours said enquiries to China ‘skyrocketed’ by 300% during the fifth non-celebrity Race Across the World series, earlier this year.
Last year, G Adventures UK National Sales Manager Stu Darnley said Race Across the World had ‘done wonders’ for touring and adventure sales.
No date has been announced yet for the launch of the new series, which will be shown on BBC One and iPlayer.
